Incorporated in 1978, the Urban Cultural Arts Foundation was established to administer the William H. Thomas Gallery as a place for artists to showcase and appreciate cultural expression without being limited by “mainstream” galleries. The oldest "black-owned and operated" art gallery in Columbus, WHT Gallery itself is also a work of art built for and by African American and African artists with a 30 year history of hosting a full spectrum of talent from both the local community and abroad.
There’s no other place like it in Ohio
From the floors made of hand cut tree limbs to the hand carved banisters, every nook and cranny of the WHT Gallery located at 1270 Bryden Road offers some delight for the eye. Open Saturdays from 1pm-7pm and by appointment, it is a community gallery dedicated to bringing the arts into the center of urban Columbus.
Unique architecture complemented by the ever-changing art adds to the aesthetics and overall appeal of the place. Once a dilapidated house, the one-of-a-kind building is now home to self-expression along with liberating outreach programs offering creative energy to be shared by guests of every age and background.
